Sandra Volcere is a London‑based documentary filmmaker and educator whose work interrogates identity, marginalisation, and belonging through visually driven, intimate storytelling. Volcere holds a BA in Communication and Visual Culture.
In 2006, she completed a PGCE in Media at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama before teaching media, film, and radio in inner‑London schools, where she foregrounded visual literacy and critical image‑making.
In 2013, she returned to the Seychelles to work as a Filmmaker for the National Council for Children, writing, directing, and editing short films for local television that translated complex social issues affecting young people into accessible, visually engaging narratives. During the same period, she was Managing Editor at Business Seychelles, where she shaped editorial direction, worked closely with journalists, chaired editorial meetings, and curated news and feature stories with clarity and purpose.
Volcere returned to filmmaking through the MA Filmmaking programme at Kingston University, graduating with distinction in 2020. Her dissertation film, You, Me and Structural Racism, combined personal testimony with structural analysis, using intentional Zoom‑based framing and screen composition, alongside voice, to examine systemic inequality from an intersectional perspective.
Alongside her film practice, she co‑produced and presented Planet Diaspora (2021), a filmed podcast series exploring race, language, neurodiversity, and Black maternal health through collective dialogue and carefully framed conversation. She is also a member of the w.in.c films collective, a network of female filmmakers and Kingston University alumni. Volcere’s work blends observational, participatory, and experimental approaches, with particular attention to intimacy, ethics, and visuals.
Her work prioritises empathy, texture, and care, creating space for voices often overlooked. She is currently developing new documentary and fictional projects that use purposeful image-making to explore power, subculture, and belonging, guided by a belief in film as both a visual record and a catalyst for change.
