Ruth Rendell (The Right Honourable, The Baroness Rendell of Babergh) was a highly successful author of thrillers and psychological murder mysteries.
Her creation of the character Inspector Wexford has featured in the hugely successful The Ruth Rendell Mysteries with 48 episodes from 1987 to 2000.
Rendell has also written works under the pseudonym Barbara Vine. Her writing has received well earned praise for its elegant prose and sharp insights into the human mind.
She was awarded with a CBE in the 1996 Birthday Honours and a life peer as Baroness Rendell of Babergh, of Aldeburgh in the County of Suffolk in 1997.
