Dominic Birtley
My name is Dominic Birtley, and I am 18 years old currently training at Musical Theatre Studios on their level 3 extended BTEC Diploma. On this course, we train for 35 hours a week in various disciplines of musical theatre, this includes multiple styles of dance such as Jazz, Ballet, Commercial and Tap, private singing lessons, and Audition preparation. This training has allowed me to build and hone my craft as a performer and allow me to cover all required areas in the industry, making me a triple threat performer. In terms of Vocal ability, my strengths lie in a more classical vocal placement, as I have trained longer in this particular side of the voice, studying operatic singing since 2019. However, in beginning my training with MTS I have been exposed to a more contemporary style of singing which has opened my horizon to contrasting sound, this makes me a strong vocalist and provides me with a right tools to be able to shape my voice to suit the style of the song that I am working on. I also have a lot of experience in ensemble singing and how to blend my voice to those around me while also having a good understanding of how to read sheet music, I find this massively beneficial when working in an ensemble. When it comes to acting and performance styles, I find that my strengths lie within the character or comedic roles which I was lucky enough to explore when given the opportunity to play Gomez Addams in the Addams family. Although, I have recently discovered a love for the naturalistic side of acting which I was able to delve deeper into through the role of Emmet Forest in Legally Blonde. I would consider myself a well-rounded performer and one who is capable of efficiently working in many different roles within a cast. Finally, in terms of dance, I believe my strengths lie in commercial dancing, especially the strong and grounded nature of the dance style. Along with this I also find I excel in MT Jazz incorporating my performance knowledge to dance. I have had a lot of experience working with professional West End producers, stage managers, choreographers, performers, and musical directors. Thanks to my college who focus their training on providing their students with an experience as close to that of a professional working environment as possible, going as far as bringing in current west end professionals to teach workshops and introducing us to producers from the industry. I would consider myself a resilient, punctual, and hard-working performer and would argue that I am very good at finding focus within a room and working hard to achieve a desired goal, this has also helped to bring me the skillset that I have as a performer, especially when I have had to put time and hard work into my dance skills. I also have experience in playing instruments including self-taught Drums along with being able to do a wide range of accents.
