Dizzee Rascal

Dizzee Rascal, is a rapper, recording artist and record producer. A pioneer of grime music, his work has also incorporated elements of UK garage, bassline, British hip hop, and R&B.

When starting to make music in his teenage years, Dizzee Rascal learned to rap fast over drum and bass tracks with 170-180 bpm, in contrast to the slower tempos of UK Garage.

Everything I do is for the music – I want to master it like Bruce Lee mastered martial arts.

He released his critically acclaimed debut album Boy in da Corner in August 2003. It has since been considered a grime classic and earned him the 2003 Mercury Prize. In September 2003, Dizzee was awarded the prestigious Mercury Prize for the best album of 2003 and he was the youngest person at just 19 years old to do so.

In 2004, Dizzee Rascal won the NME Award for Innovation. His second album, Showtime, was released in September of the same year, eclipsing the peak of his debut album by entering the UK Albums Chart at No.8. 

Scoring a flurry of number-one hits with Dance wiv Me, Bonkers, Holiday, Dirtee Disco and Shout.

I always want to make people dance so there'll always be an element of dance in my music.

Dizzee's third album, Maths + English, was released on 4 June 2007, his fourth studio album, Tongue n' Cheek, was released on 21 September 2009. The Fifth in 2013, had the hit single Goin Crazy featuring Robbie Williams. He released Raskit his sixth album on July 21 2017.

I found it easy to produce. I'm not the musical guy. I can't read and play music like that, but put some drums and a sample in front of me and I can whip it up nice, and I'll work out some keys and find some interesting instruments to put under it.

Dizzee has collaborated we many diverse recording artists and musicians including: Calvin Harris, The Basement Jaxx, Skepta, Robbie Williams, Tinie Tempah, Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine, Tinchy Stryder and Wiley.

I just know that he's Robbie Williams - he's massive, that's all I know! He nailed it. Working in the studio with him was cool. I got there at about six in the afternoon and then stayed until six in the morning. We only worked for like two hours, the rest of the time we were just chilling out the back. The way Robbie handles everything... he's a star, but there were never any pretensions, no ego. He put effort in.
