Woody Burgess

My name is Woody Burgess and I am a musician from West Yorkshire. I'm currently in my final year of the Level 3 BTEC Music Performance course at Leeds City college which is helping me shape myself into the musician I want to be. Throughout my time studying on the course, I have developed my skills in songwriting, collaboration and performance. 

I started off when I was in primary school and I saw a poster for accordion lessons every thursday and friday. I had always wanted to learn an instrument so I ran home and begged my parents to let me do it. I did it every week through primary school all the way to early secondary school. I came 1st place in 5 competitions, went busking in cities like York, Leeds, Skipton and that is where my passion for music began.

After doing accordion for so long, I fancied a change. So I picked up guitar. It gradually became my main instrument and still is one of them to this day. After a few years of guitar I discovered the power of my voice. Unlike the other instruments I have learnt, singing was completely self taught. So, I started trying to put my guitar and vocals together. 

During my final years of school, I felt that it was time to start looking for band. I reached out on social media putting posters up on my stories, making regular posts and eventually, I started getting replies. After finding the people that match what i'm looking for a band was created. 

Big Beef (created in 2023/2024) was a pop punk band (which I was the lead singer and lead guitarist of!) that played many live shows in venues like The Underground in Bradford, The 1in12 Club in Bradford and Northern Guitars in Leeds. We never released any music but performed many originals at every one of our shows. The band went on for 2 and a half years and once it ended my solo career began. 

Currently, I play many locals gigs at local small grassroots venues and bars. Every month, I play a set at the martinez wine bar in bingley which is a very popular event in bradford. I also do private event bookings like anniversaries, weddings and parties.

Im currently in the process of recording a prog rock EP so keep your eyes peeled for sneak peaks, previews and announcements.

As a musician, I have the aspiration to push my passion for music and hopefully grow it into a career in the industry. I aim to perform as many shows as I possibly can and eventually become a music teacher in high schools and colleges whilst still performing on the side
