My name is Katie, and I am currently studying level six Fine Art.

My interests are sculpture, drawing, painting, and theatre.

Both classical and contemporary artworks inspire me. I create figurative and portraiture works that capture the personality or gestures of everyday people we may encounter. These people can often look as though they belong to another era and capture a moment which holds memory and significance. I incorporate textures and aged aesthetics to embed a sense of history.

Whether working in two dimensional or three dimensional forms I like to combine materials to make the overall work complex like the characters of individuals. My works are created in a muted or natural palette, juxtaposed with a bold pop of colour to contrast and draw attention to certain details.

I have worked with papier-mâché, newspaper, paper pulp, clay, wire and wool in sculpture, by leaving some of the materials bare it purposely creates rawness and mix of surfaces and textures that can feel very present and dramatic. I have an interest in theatre and creating works that could be part of a theatre or film set.

When painting and creating mixed media, I would like to project the subject of my works to evoke a sense of their personality and their character in a unique way that can be relatable, to allow the viewer to question and make up their own conclusions, recalling information or perhaps a moment in time of what this means to them.

I want to study Art Therapy in the future while continuing my art practice. I strive to help individuals wellbeing and to enable them to reach their potential.
