Jacob May

I am Jacob, a 21-year-old multi-disciplinary artist, currently working in video, photography, sound design and music production. 

My cultural background and surroundings have inspired my practice. I will continue to explore the theme of ethnicity and race, while also exploring ideas within the self-portrait. Aesthetically, I choose to imitate film techniques, to give his work the timeless effect film possesses.

I am a mixed race male, therefore I will have the tendency to shoot and shoot for people of colour, as I find myself more comfortable shooting with/for them.

Being a person of colour myself too also leans me towards having them as my subject matter for my own work, to put people like us on a pedestal.

I shall bear in mind how people are sensitive to having their picture taken so will continue to show and document how my imagery will forever be a positive reflection of them.
